May 18 School Activities — Group 1 – The Fifth Annual International Conference on Reciprocal Learning Between Eastern and Western Education & Conference on Deep Learning Classroom Research

Group 1: Primary School Attached to Northeast Normal University

At the Primary School Attached to Northeast Normal University (NENU), a morning opening ceremony kick started a series of English lesson demonstrations given by Mr. Mintao Tian (Primary School Attached to China Agricultural University), Ms. Zhang Dandan (Primary School Attached to North East Normal University) and Ms. Yang Yiran (Primary School Attached to China Agricultural University).

在东北师大附属小学（自由校区）会场，中国农业大学附属小学的田明弢教师和杨依然教师，以及东北师范大学附属小学的张丹丹教师分别跟东北师大附小的学生们上了一节英语课。杨鲁新和孙维华教授指出，虽然三节课的教学目标和课型都不同，但都很有温度、深度和宽度。

Mr. Tian taught a Grade 2 English lesson “Hey Presto!” to a group of students from the Primary School Attached to NENU. He only met his students one day before his lesson demonstration.

Ms. Zhang taught a Grade 2 English entitled “I have a Sweater.”

Ms. Yang demonstrated a Grade 3 English lesson entitled “Fun Time.” A group of students from the Primary School attached to NENU participated actively in her lesson.

After demonstrating their lessons, each teacher was given a chance to reflect upon their lesson.

The teacher reflection was followed by commentaries from Dr. Luxin Yang (Beijing Foreign Studies University) and Dr. Weihua Sun (Primary School Attached to NENU).

Special Topic Reports 专题报告

Principal Yeting Wang from Shanghai Huaping Primary School presented her school’s experience of building Sister School partnership with Ryerson Community School in Canada. She invited Mr. Yimin Shao from Huaping, and Ms. Adrienne Rigler from Ryerson, to talk about their stories of reciprocal learning in the areas of water science and STEM. She further invited Ms. Ding Ding from Huaping and Ms. Helen Fenton from Ryerson to explain how they had been able to learn reciprocally from each other through co-teaching lessons and guiding their students to work on shared literacy activities such as penpal projects and making joint alphabet books.
下午，来自上海华坪小学的王叶婷校长通过播放视频向大家介绍了华坪小学和多伦多瑞尔森学校的互惠学习情况。华坪小学的邹益民老师和加拿大多伦多瑞尔森社区学校的Adrienne Rigler老师共同分享了学校科学教育发展的互惠学习经历和感悟。丁丁老师(上海华坪小学)和 Helen Fenton 老师 (多伦多瑞尔森社区学校)分别从教师间的合作、学生间的合作以及面对面的合作三个方面介绍她们互惠学习的经历。

In addition, Principal Yanling Wang, Mr. Gao Junsheng, and Ms. Sun Yanjun from the Primary School Attached to NENU also shared their experiences of learning reciprocally with Toronto-based teachers in the area of math. Professors Zongjie Wu, Zuochen Zhang and Luxin Yang added that through reciprocal learning, one can learn more about oneself while learning to appreciate and respect differences. The three professors encouraged audience to think about how they could engage the idea of reciprocal learning in their own educational work.

东北师范大学附属小学王艳玲副校长、高俊生、孙艳君也一起分享了附小参与项目以及在数学领域互惠学习的一些做法和感受。吴宗杰教授、张佐臣教授和杨鲁新教授一致认为要通过交流使彼此更加认清⾃己，尊重彼此教育文化的差异。他们指出，随着深入的交流应该发现对方的⻓处，并将其与⾃己的学科特点相结合。最后，三位教授⼀致认为互惠不是一件容易的事情，他们提出了怎样将教育的效益最大化的问题引起了大家的思考。
